The Lord's Supper

Sharing is caring!

Good morning CommunionConnection family. I pray you are well this morning and are living in the blessing of the Lord. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to listen to or download the podcast. This is an exciting week for the show as it has now been added to Apple podcasts. For those who don’t know that is by far the number one way podcasts are downloaded and listened to.

If you find us through Itunes, please download the show, rate us (5 stars I hope) and join me as we meet every week to be with the Lord in communion and experience His presence. For those who are new to the blog I would encourage you to read my last post The Bread of His Presence. I pray the Lord’s peace over you and that you walk in the joy of the Lord.

In this week’s post I would like to take on the subject of healing in relationship to taking communion. When we read communion it is common to use the text from 1 Corinthians 11:23-26. In the next few verses the Lord, through Paul, warns us to properly discern the Lord’s body while taking communion. It goes on to say that if we don’t properly discern His body that in verse 30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.

For those who are not as familiar with the books of the New Testament this sleep means they have died. So not properly understanding the Lord’s body can lead to weakness, sickness, and even death. So the question becomes, how do we properly discern Jesus’ body. I believe there is a two-fold answer to this question.

The first thing that we must do is discern Him physically. We must first recognize what Jesus bought for us when his body was beaten, bruised, and broken. In Isaiah 53:5 it says that He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. We must understand that the broken bread represents His broken body which HAS BOUGHT our healing.

Just as He purchased our salvation He also bought our peace and healing. In believing the truth of God’s Word through true discerment it will release faith in us to be healed. Please note here, and please hear me, that healing is sometimes instantaneous but can very well be a process. If God heals you through a process it is NO LESS supernatural than an instant miracle. It can however, do a work in you to build even greater faith as you continue to believe Him in the process.

The second thing we need to do is discern Him spiritually. Many in the body are sick and dying while being eaten up with bitterness, jealousy, envy, resentment, and things like this. Harboring these feelings inside of us will lead to the type of sickness Paul speaks of. True Christianity, proper discernment of His spiritual body, should not include any of these negative thoughts or actions. On the contrary Jesus said in John 13:35 that “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”.

Love of course does not include jealousy, envy, resentment or the like. These things are like cancer in you eating you up from the inside. Paul could see that walking outside the will of the Lord would have disastrous results in your body. I want to share a testimony with you of a person who lived out the healing power of communion.

I was able to hear this testimony on Sid Roth’s It’s Supernatural show many years ago. This story is about a lady named Shirley, who had metastasized malignant cancer which was incurable. She took daily communion and the Lord began to reveal to her all of the bitterness she was harboring. As she repented of everything the Lord showed her day by day she became more and more healed. Eventually she became cancer free by the healing of the Lord and discerning the Lord’s body spiritually.

There are many other similar testimonies of healing, enough to write a full book of them if they were all collected. My desire in including this one testimony is to spur you on to good works and aim you toward the healing benefits of our mighty God through the taking of communion. In combining these two types of discernment, both the physical and the spiritual you will greatly increase your ability to walk in faith, health, and true spiritual peace. May they see in you good works and glorify the Father.

Once again I pray for the peace of God in your life and that you would walk in blessing. Please join us for our podcast Sunday mornings when we take communion together. Feel free to leave a comment for the show. Last, but by no means least, head over to and visit my friend Erin, her juices are a great way to practice health and healing.
